As the end of 2006 approaches, the dawning of a new era begins in less than 22 hours... I had initially planned on launching New Years day, but given that I have other matters to attend to (because a blog launch on New Years doesn't sound incredibly lame) there'd be no way I'd be able to share what's on my mind in time.
The first of January doesn't just bring about a new year, hopeful resolutions, and Twilight Zone marathons. It signifies the start of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS). BOWL SEASON BABY! Last years decisive end to the college football season was a memorable one, showcased by my PERFECT 4 for 4 when it came to picking the winners. I won't go into greater detail, since some people I know are still bitter about the mollywhopping Vince Young gave to Reggie Bush and the beloved USC Trojans. As for this year, here are my picks.
Rose Bowl: Michigan vs. USC - Winner: USC - If the Trojans are able to contain Mike Hart, they're going to stand a great chance taking this one. The stud WR's for USC will be too much for the Wolverines and will make up the difference in a shootout between two prestigious programs. Super Mario and Dwayne Jarrett are going to be a handful for each secondary.
Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma vs. Boise State - Winner: Boise State - Given that OU sucks chode when it comes to Bowl games as of late, my pick goes to smurfs.
Orange Bowl: Louisville vs. Wake Forest- Winner: Louisville - Can care less about these two programs yet alone, this game.
Sugar Bowl: LSU vs. Notre Dame- Winner: Notre Dame - Samardzija = THE MAN! Watch.
National Championship Game: Ohio State vs. Florida - Winner: The Ohio State University - Since I predicted Ohio State to be playing for the National Championship LAST season, I don't see any reason why it should change. They finished the regular season a perfect 12-0, have a Heisman trophy winning QB calling the shots, a prolific receiving core, stonewall defense, and an explosive Running back. Let us not forget the Gators escaped a scare back in November against South Carolina.
Be good tonight folks. Make sure nobody roofies your drink, practice safe sex, and pay the damn $20 to have a cab take your drunken asses home. Have a safe holiday.
